A Palastinian Planting
Hello Friends,
How wonderful to hear of such success. We are glad. We too, have a planting story. Our trees, which we bought from the Palestinian Village of Dier Al-Asad. After much conversation about where and how we might plant, we decided that for this place, and at this time, we wanted the trees to be symbolic, but also of use to the oppressed people living under occupation in the West Bank.
We got into a very small bus, with our trees, and travelled to Beit Jalla (the village next to Beit Lihem - Bethlehem) At Beit Jalla, we gave the trees as gifts to our friends Jasser, and Alfredo. (they are next door neighbours. Jasser's family is Muslim and Alfredo's family is Christian. "In Beit Jalla, Muslim and Christian are Brothers", says Jasser)
Their house and garden is built on a hill, overlooking a valley to the next hill, on top of which is a Jewish settlement, called Gilo, built on land which was taken by force from the Palestinian village that once lived there.
We tied tags with the verses from Micah on the tree, and prayed for fruitful trees, which may one day be witness to not only muslim and christian being brothers, but jewish, and all others, too.
And hopefully at that time, everyone will sit underneath their own vine, and their own fig tree, and none of then will be afraid any more...
xx
